It’s the time of year when the attention of our volunteers turns to maintenance of the railway and over the past few weeks work has begun on the major winter track relay.

Following on from last year’s relay of the first curve out of Lhen Coan, this winter sees the relaying of the second portion of that “S” bend and the straight beyond it through the section nicknamed “the wet bit!”

The old track has been dismantled and removed, the trackbed cleared and new track assembled with new S14 rail, wooden sleepers, base pates and pandrol clips.

Work will now continue to ballast the new section, level and finish ahead of the running season which starts at Easter.

If you wish to join in with maintaining the line, we always welcome new volunteers to the team. Please contact us via email on the contact page.
