Groudle Glen Railway has won the Isle of Man Tourism Best Attraction Award for 2013. All the volunteers who continue to restore, operate and maintain are over the moon to have been recognised with this award after many years of rebuilding the railway and its infrastructure and developing it back into a successful, family friendly attraction as it was in Victorian Days.
The judge’s citation stated:
Best attraction:- Winner – Groudle Glen Railway
“The judges were hugely impressed by the fact that volunteers have come together to produce a unique attraction. Through sheer hard work and determination, they have created something that both adds to the Island experience of visitors, but also provides something special for local people.”
The award was received from Lawrence Skelly MHK from Isle of Man Tourism on behalf of all the volunteers by Trevor Nall, Richard Booth and Piglet Beard… the railway’s mascot who represents the late Tony Beard who spearheaded the railway’s restoration for over 25 years.
Thank you to everyone who voted for us, and Isle of Man Tourism for the award…. we will endeavour to continue to improve the railway long into the future.
