As we begin 2017, progress on Brown Bear continues down the glen with the view to still having her completed and in steam by late 2018.
Work on producing and machining most major parts is now pretty much complete and her boiler is on order with assembly due to start this year.
Both of her footplates have been test fitted down the glen to her frames (along with her tanks and cab awaiting final painting and assembly.
The machining work has been completed on her coupling rods, reversing lever and brake gear. The focus will now be primarily turning to the assembly of the locomotive.
We are still seeking funding to complete the project, so if you feel you can help with even a small donation, please check out the Brown Bear Appeal page on the website.
Thanks as always to our friends who have been assisting us in the building of Brown Bear; Jack Dibnah, North Bay Railway in Scarborugh, Nick Midgeley of Midcam Engineering and John Hocking and the team at the IOM Steam Packet Workshops.
