Brown Bear.. Nearly there!

After six years of fundraising with the Brown Bear Appeal and construction… Brown Bear is nearly complete.

Built as a replica of Groudle Glen Railway’s second original locomotive Polar Bear of 1905, she features the original chimney from Polar Bear as a link with the past.

When complete she will recreate the authentic 1905 view of two Bagnalls (Sea Lion and Polar/Brown Bear) operating the railway side by side.. and is one of the final pieces of the puzzle to restore the line.

She will be arriving on island early July courtesy of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, before testing takes place ahead of her official launch alongside Otter on Sunday 28th July at 2pm as part of the Isle of Man Heritage Transport Festival.

The volunteers at the railway want to offer their sincere thanks to the supporters of the Brown Bear Appeal, to John Boyes and Trackshack Ltd., The Gough Ritchie Charitable Trust, the Alan Chinery Trust, The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and John Fowler & Sons of Old Hall Farm for their support in the project.
