Brown Bear is off on holiday!
Her chassis has been lifted off the rails for the trip to our friends at Old Hall Farm Engineering, Cumbria, who are undertaking final assembly. With Sea Lion’s unexpected firebox repair and her new cab, tanks and cladding needing installing, our volunteer team has got enough work to keep them fully occupied this winter. So in order to keep the Brown Bear project progressing as it should, the final assembly work will be taking place off island. Our thanks to Old Hall Farm for agreeing to assist and getting the work completed.
Her finished boiler is already at Bouth, the cab, water tanks and all remaining components will be transported next week.
Our grateful thanks to the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, Mezeron and Old Hall Farm for their generous support for this work.
Likewise our grateful thanks to all the supporters of the Brown Bear Appeal who have enabled this project to build a replica of the railway’s 1905 locomotive Polar Bear to happen.
We still have a way to go and if you can support the appeal, even in the smallest way please visit the Brown Bear Appeal page on the website to find out about the rewards available.
